April Gold Chestnut Castanea sativa is a fast-growing, grafted, deciduous, medium-sized tree with large, dark green leaves and massed clusters of scented, white and yellow flowers in spring. The blooms are followed by edible, extra large, free-falling, dark brown nuts encased in a prickly, golden burr in autumn. Partially self-pollinating, the April Gold Chestnut requires two compatible pollinators nearby for successful fruiting. Use roasted and in cooking.
